Stuck at home because of the ASEAN Summit roadblocks? You’re not alone—why not take the chance to explore what your TV or internet has to offer? While the 2025 ASEAN Summit has the city in pause mode, it’s the perfect excuse to dive into a binge-worthy series or finally watch that film everyone’s been talking about. Here’s a selection of movies and TV shows to stream while you wait out the roadblocks and keep your spirits high.

Shows To Pass The Time

The Resident Playbook

Everybody’s got a drama they’re following, especially KDramas. The Resident Playbook is one such drama that has caught plenty of attention. The drama chronicles the journey of four obstetrics and gynaecology (OBGYN) residents at Yulje Medical Centre as they face the challenges of their first year in residency, balancing demanding careers with personal struggles and deepening friendships.

The series has twelve episodes and is a spin-off of the popular “Hospital Playlist” and takes place in the Jongno branch of Yulje Medical Centre, a different branch from the one seen in the original series.

Murderbot

Are you a fan of sci-fi and action? Then this new series is for you. Murderbot is about a sarcastic, self-aware android who’s had enough of being told what to do. In a world run by corporations, it hacks its own system and sets out to figure out life on its own. Currently, it has three episodes out with the next ones coming at the end of May and throughout June. If you cannot wait for the rest of the series to come out, feel free to check out the book series it was adapted from. It is titled The Murderbot Diaries by American author Martha Wells.

Daredevil: Born Again

For fans of superhero works, Daredevil: Born Again is a must to check out. Daredevil: Born Again picks up the story of Matt Murdock/Daredevil following his previous Marvel appearances, focusing on his return to the city and his showdown with Wilson Fisk, now serving as Mayor. The series delves into the fallout from Fisk’s rise to power and the turmoil it sparks, as Daredevil fights to take down the crime and corruption engulfing the city. There are nine episodes to watch, and talks of a second season coming out next year.

One Thousand Blows

Take a chance with a historical action piece by checking out One Thousand Blows. Set in the unforgiving streets of 1880s London, the story follows Jamaican immigrants Hezekiah and Alec as they confront the violence and corruption of the East End.

As they rise through the ranks of underground boxing, they find themselves caught between the Queen of the Forty Elephants (a notorious female-led gang) and Sugar Goodson, the self-styled ruler of East End boxing. Hezekiah’s growing success draws both admiration and hostility, igniting a conflict that could turn deadly. There are six episodes currently out, and talks of more episodes to come in the future.

Win or Lose

If you want to take a break from action-packed work, consider Win or Lose. The series tracks eight interconnected characters gearing up for a middle school softball championship. Each episode highlights a different character’s viewpoint during the pivotal week before the game, delving into their fears, doubts, and ways of coping. There are a total of eight episodes to match each character and provide an emotional rollercoaster for viewers to ride.

Movies to Check Out

Companion

Perhaps you are the type who prefers something that can give you chills. If so, consider Companion. The sci-fi thriller piece follows a young woman named Iris as she discovers she’s not human but a highly advanced rental android, manipulated by her boyfriend via an app. After killing a man in self-defence during a weekend getaway, she uncovers a chilling conspiracy involving betrayal, stolen millions, and hacked AIs used as pawns. As Iris fights to regain control over her mind and body, she sets out on a path of vengeance and liberation.

Nosferatu

Another chilling piece for you to consider, but featuring a different setting and style, is Nosferatu. Centred on Ellen, a newlywed haunted by the terrifying vampire Count Orlok, Nosferatu unfolds in 1838 Germany. Her husband, Thomas Hutter, travels to the remote Carpathian Alps to negotiate with Orlok, a nightmarish figure of horror. The film explores obsession, love, and the clash between good and evil as Ellen faces the vampire’s dark influence and the danger he brings to their community.

Novacaine

Want to take a shift into something more fun but action-packed? Then check out Novacaine. The story follows Nathan Caine (Quaid), a bank employee who cannot feel pain, as he sets out to rescue his co-worker (Midthunder) after she is taken hostage by a group of bank robbers. Given the condition of the protagonist, you’d best brace for plenty of moments that will have you commiserating with the pain he is supposed to feel during fight scenes.

Nonnas

For something less intense and more heartfelt, you’ll want to check out Nonnas. Inspired by the true story of Staten Island’s Enoteca Maria, the film follows Nick (Vince Vaughn), a grieving son who, after losing his mother and grandmother, opens a restaurant staffed entirely by grandmothers to honour their legacy.

Flow

If you are a fan of cats and want to discover something different, Flow is the film to watch. Flow (Straume) is a 2024 animated adventure film from Latvia, France, and Belgium that tells the wordless story of a cat navigating a post-apocalyptic world alongside other animals as rising waters threaten their survival. What makes this film so unique is that it holds no dialogue, yet has left a mark with its music and visuals.

These are just a few among many shows and films for you to check out while stuck at home due to the roadblocks. Whether you like something dark and gritty or family friendly, these media works are sure to help pass the time.
