Philippine VP Sara Gives Brief Response Since Impeachment

Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte held her first press briefing on Friday since the House of Representatives impeached her, saying her legal team was preparing to defend in the upcoming trial.

“I want to thank the people who love and trust me,” Duterte made the remark at the Office of the Vice President’s main headquarters in Mandaluyong.

Duterte said the planning for the impeachment against her began as early as November 2023, and her lawyers have been reading relevant documents.

Duterte was impeached by the House of Representatives on Wednesday. The impeachment complaint reached the Senate, but the Senate has adjourned its plenary session until June after the midterm election ends.
