Govt Ramps Up AI Readiness, Expands AI Upskilling Among Workforce For Future Economy
The Human Resources Ministry (MOHR) is stepping up efforts to prepare Malaysians for an artificial intelligence (AI)-driven economy with the nationwide rollout of “Jelajah AI MyMahir”, a community-level AI upskilling initiative led by Talent Corporation Malaysia Bhd (TalentCorp).
Launching the programme, Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Ramanan Ramakrishnan said Malaysia’s approach to AI must remain inclusive, people-centred and aligned with real workplace needs.
“AI is already reshaping how Malaysians work across sectors. Our responsibility as a government is to ensure the rakyat are not left behind, but are equipped with practical skills that help them remain productive, employable and competitive,” he said.
Under the nationwide rollout, the programme will reach 60 constituencies, delivering hands-on AI learning to students, workers, women, entrepreneurs and small business owners. The focus is on practical AI usage that boosts productivity, employability and income-generation as automation continues to change job and skills requirements.
To reinforce public-private collaboration, TalentCorp formalised a memorandum of Understanding with Ernst & Young Consulting Sdn Bhd under the global EY Ripples corporate responsibility programme. The collaboration, valued at RM110 million, is expected to benefit around 22,000 Malaysians, including 12,000 participants under Jelajah AI MyMahir and 10,000 others through separate TalentCorp programmes involving students, women and veterans.
The push comes amid TalentCorp’s Impact Study on AI, Digital and the Green Economy, which estimates that 685,000 Malaysian workers could be significantly affected within the next three to five years if reskilling efforts are not accelerated.
“Jelajah AI MyMahir turns national talent priorities into practical AI learning that reaches Malaysians where they live and work,” Ramanan said, underscoring MOHR’s drive to future-proof the nation’s workforce.
