Foreign Minister Heads To US From Feb 3-4 For Critical Minerals Talks

Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan is undertaking a two-day working visit to the US from Feb 3-4, 2026, at the invitation of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to attend the Critical Minerals Ministerial in Washington DC.

According to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, the trip will focus on strengthening Malaysia-US cooperation in critical minerals, a strategic sector for sustainable growth, technology development and resilient supply chains.

The ministry shared that during the trip, the minister is set to meet US counterparts to discuss investment, joint research, innovation and industrial collaboration.

“This visit also builds on the Malaysia-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, elevated in October 2025, and the existing memorandum of understanding on diversifying global critical minerals supply chains, aiming to foster long-term, mutually beneficial collaboration,” it said.

The ministry highlighted that the trade between the two countries remains strong as Malaysia’s total trade with the US rose 13% in 2025 to RM367.47 billion, with exports up 17.2% to RM233.08 billion and imports up 6.4% to RM134.39 billion.
