CIMB Commits RM10 Billion to Power Growth in Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone
CIMB Group Holdings Berhad has announced a landmark commitment of RM10 billion in funding facilities to drive economic integration and unlock cross-border business opportunities in the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ).
Leveraging its strong ASEAN footprint and comprehensive suite of financial solutions, CIMB has introduced the ASEAN Financial Passport—a one-stop solution designed to provide businesses with seamless cross-border banking support. This initiative offers end-to-end financial services, including deep local regulatory expertise, to assist enterprises at every stage of growth.
CIMB is strategically positioned to support the growth of both corporates and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), while also accelerating investment flows into the JS-SEZ. As a regional bank with a presence in multiple ASEAN markets, CIMB connects clients to a broad ecosystem of value chain partners, investors, government agencies, regulators, and other stakeholders—enabling smooth market entry and fast operational setup.
Among the tailored services offered are expedited onboarding through a green lane account opening process for Malaysia-Singapore clients, and bespoke banking solutions including SMEBizReady, GreenBizReady, HalalBizReady, and cross-border remittance services to meet diverse operational and expansion needs.
“The JS-SEZ represents a transformative step in regional economic collaboration, enhancing connectivity and creating new avenues for sustainable growth between Malaysia and Singapore,” said Novan Amirudin, Group Chief Executive Officer of CIMB Group.
“This initiative builds a seamless ecosystem for businesses and talent mobility, facilitating efficient movement of goods, reducing operational costs, and boosting productivity. With clearly defined complementary strengths and a well-coordinated bilateral framework, we believe JS-SEZ is primed for success.”.
He added: “As a leading ASEAN-focused financial institution, CIMB is dedicated to our purpose of advancing customers and society. We are excited to help realise the potential of the JS-SEZ through our cross-border banking solutions, strategic advisory, and extensive partner ecosystem—supported by our strong presence in Johor and Singapore.
“In a time of global uncertainty, we remain a trusted partner to our clients, committed to helping them navigate a rapidly evolving business landscape.”
To further support this commitment, CIMB has established a dedicated team of 30 experienced bankers based in both Singapore and Malaysia. This team is focused on accelerating market entry for clients from Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Mainland China, and Hong Kong SAR.
In Johor alone, CIMB operates 28 branches, with six specifically equipped to serve JS-SEZ-related business needs. The Group is also exploring branch locations near the Johor-Singapore Rapid Transit System Link (RTS) checkpoints to enhance service accessibility.
CIMB also actively conducts high-impact initiatives, including foreign and domestic direct investment (FDI and DDI) partnerships and familiarisation visits to Johor for ASEAN clients.
These engagements provide valuable market intelligence, direct access to key stakeholders, and networking opportunities that promote strategic collaborations. The Group also organises targeted seminars covering topics such as economic and industry outlooks, legal and tax frameworks, regulatory guidance, business setup processes, and financing options—equipping businesses with the insights they need to operate effectively in the JS-SEZ.
Beyond banking, CIMB offers value-added services including sustainability advisory and integrated payroll solutions through CIMB@WORK, helping businesses streamline operations while addressing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) priorities.
These initiatives reinforce CIMB’s role as a committed regional partner for cross-border business expansion and sustainable economic growth. To learn more about CIMB’s solutions for the JS-SEZ, visit:
