The deal, witnessed by senior officials from the Ministry of Communications and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, sets the stage for tailored 5G innovations aimed at industries in the region.

Not only just about coverage, they aim to create intelligent, purpose-built networks. U Mobile plans to leverage ZTE’s AI-powered 5G-A technologies to tackle the unique geographic and environmental conditions of East Malaysia, promising more stable connections and higher service quality for businesses operating across different sectors.

On top of that, both companies are working on an Intelligent 5G-enabled Industrial Campus framework. They’ll start with pilot sites in East Malaysia, testing out solutions like AI integration and network slicing to make industrial operations smarter and more efficient. If successful, these campuses will serve as replicable models that can be rolled out across other industries in the region.

U Mobile’s CTO, Woon Ooi Yuen, said the partnership reinforces the company’s commitment to speeding up 5G adoption, combining U Mobile’s ULTRA5G with ZTE’s expertise in AI-driven networks to build high-performance infrastructure that fuels industrial innovation and inclusive digital growth in East Malaysia.

Meanwhile, ZTE Malaysia’s Managing Director, Steven Ge, highlighted the company’s latest advancements, such as AI-based station connectivity and Smart Antenna Algorithms, noting that together with U Mobile, they aim to deliver scalable solutions that strengthen Malaysia’s digital economy.
