TNB Urges Public To Use Electricity Wisely Amid Hot Weather And Festive Season
Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has advised the public to practise prudent electricity usage during the ongoing hot weather and the upcoming festive season, as energy consumption is expected to spike.
TNB noted that hot conditions drive higher electricity use due to longer hours of air conditioner and fan operation, while festive activities such as decorative lighting, cooking and hosting gatherings further increase demand.
“The combined factors may lead to higher bills and potential safety risks if precautions are not followed,” it warned.
The utility company then shared key electrical safety tips, including switching off the main power when leaving home, checking wiring and plugs, using certified appliances, avoiding overloading sockets, and keeping fireworks and festive decorations away from electrical installations.
It also shared some practical energy-saving measures, including setting air-conditioners to 24°C-26°C, using timers for decorative lights, maximising natural daylight, batching appliance use and opting for energy-efficient appliances.
Other tips include proper refrigerator management, switching off rice cookers after cooking and drying clothes under the sunlight instead of using a dryer.
“TNB wishes everyone celebrating a Happy Chinese New Year. May this festive season bring happiness, well-being and safety to you and your loved ones,” the company said.
