ARA Malls Celebrates Eco Month Nationwide: Join the Movement for a Greener Future
Every March, ARA Malls unites its patrons across Malaysia to celebrate Eco Month with its dynamic and impactful campaign, “Helping Our Planet Every day” (H.O.P.E.). With a strong commitment to sustainability, ARA Malls aims to cultivate an eco-conscious mindset while offering engaging activities and experiences designed to encourage environmental awareness.
Eco-Conscious Campaign Highlights
H.O.P.E. has become a beloved annual tradition, showcasing a mix of educational and entertaining initiatives designed to make a real difference. This March, 1 Mont Kiara and CITTA Mall will again host popular eco-themed events that invite shoppers to participate in saving our planet. Among the key activities are:
- Aluminium Pull-Tab Collection: A community-driven effort to collect pull tabs from aluminum cans, which will be donated to prosthetic limb manufacturers through ARA’s partnership with the Lions Club. Patrons can drop off their pull tabs at the information counters between 12pm and 6pm during March.
- Coffee Ground Collection: Aiming to reduce waste and repurpose materials for environmental benefit, this collection invites shoppers to dispose of used coffee grounds for creative reuse.
- Eco-Themed Arts & Crafts Workshops: Hosted throughout the month, these workshops teach participants how to transform everyday waste into artistic masterpieces, raising awareness about reusing and recycling.
In addition, Mr. Plasticman, the lovable mascot of the H.O.P.E. campaign, will make appearances at both malls, encouraging shoppers to exchange their plastic bags for reusable, eco-friendly alternatives.
Eco-Fashionista Costume Contest: A Showcase of Creativity
A staple of Eco Month, the Eco-Fashionista Costume Contest draws creative minds from across the country. Designer moms and young contestants take the stage to present their upcycled fashion creations made from materials like aluminium cans, cardboard, old newspapers, and plastic waste. This year, the contest will be held at Ipoh Parade, CITTA Mall, and Klang Parade, with a total of RM850 in cash and prizes up for grabs at each venue.
In past years, participants have amazed audiences with their innovation, proving that sustainable fashion can indeed be chic and functional. It’s not just about looking good—it’s about promoting a sustainable future, starting with fashion.
H.O.P.E. Recycled Art Contest: Inspiring Young Artists
1 Mont Kiara will continue its tradition with the H.O.P.E. Recycled Art Contest, inviting local youth to submit works that reflect their thoughts on sustainability. This year, the contest received an impressive 132 submissions, more than ever before. As a result, the top 70 artworks will be displayed in a special exhibition on the mall’s ground floor from 13 – 19 March. These powerful pieces offer a glimpse into the minds of tomorrow’s environmental leaders, communicating urgent calls to action through creative expression.
Succulent Fair at Ipoh Parade: Greening the Future
In addition to the contests, Ipoh Parade will host its inaugural Succulent Fair from 31 March to 2 April, in collaboration with Cactus Boy Nursery. This event highlights the growing popularity of succulents as easy-to-care-for, eco-friendly plants that help add greenery to homes. Visitors can explore a stunning variety of succulents, discover their care secrets, and even take home their own unique plant arrangements.
For those interested in learning more, Cactus Boy himself will lead workshops on succulent care on 1 and 2 April. Participants can also join hands-on sessions where they will learn how to arrange succulents into decorative pots, making sustainable gardening accessible for everyone.
Environmental Awareness: A Step Towards a Greener Future
The efforts organized by ARA Malls through H.O.P.E. are part of a larger mission to inspire a change in how we think about the environment. While these activities are just a small part of addressing global challenges like climate change, ARA Malls hopes they serve as a spark that inspires sustainable habits for the future.
Alan Thoo, Head of Marketing at ARA Malls, shared, “We believe every little action counts, and through these fun, educational activities, we can encourage both children and adults to adopt sustainable habits in their daily lives. Our hope is that these small steps will eventually lead to significant change.”
