Nintendo Switch 2 revealed – here is everything we know so far

Nintendo must be absolutely furious given what happened at CES 2025. Genki just outright showed off a mockup of what the Nintendo Switch 2 would look like – the tablet, Joy-Cons (I expect them to still be called Joy-Cons) and also the new dock. Nintendo decided to just drop a Switch 2 teaser video out of nowhere. No prior announcement, no nothing. Just a “here you go”.
There are a few things that are worth highlighting with the Nintendo Switch 2. It has a larger display compared t before, and the overall shape seems to have changed too – particularly with the Joy-Cons. Nintendo still manage to incorporate the blue and coral color in the Joy-Cons, even though they’re very subtle compared to what we had before. I’ not sure if I like this new blacked-out look.

The new Joy-Cons will connect to the main unit in a different manner as well. Going by the leaks, it plugs into the pins and there is a latch to pull before we can release the Joy-Cons.

The kickstand is different compared to what we had on the Switch OLED, and it’s still a really big upgrade over what we had with the original Switch.

As for the ports, there seems to be double USB-C ports. One at the top that I have no idea what’s it for, and another at the bottom to be connected to the dock.

And speaking of the dock, the new dock is a lot more rounded. It’s still about the same size as before – so we can drop the entire Switch onto the dock to connect it to the large screen.

As for the games, Nintendo only showed off Mario Kart. I’m not sure if it’s a new Mario Kart or not because I don’t play Mario Kart. Nintendo also mentioned that Switch games are compatible with the Switch 2, though not guaranteed.

There will be a Nintendo Direct on later this year – which will be aired on 2nd April 2025. Yes, it’s April – I checked.
Nintendo will also be showcasing the Switch 2 in these places publicly too, as according to their website.

I’m certainly excited for the Switch 2. If rumors are true, they are indeed utilizing upscaler tech to ensure games run smoothly and efficiently even in handheld mode – and this is an application of upscaler tech that I am most excited about.
