New Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 SoC only comes with minute performance gains
A new Qualcomm SoC has been released, but it’s not a “fresh new innovative” model; it is just the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4.
Carrying some minor updates compared to its predecessor, the underlying architecture is pretty much the same – a 1+3+4 core layout of the Kryo CPU at 2.7GHz, which is 200MHz higher than the one inside the 7s Gen 3, delivering a 7% performance increase across the board.
The same 7% up can be said to the GPU as well, despite the GPU being unchanged, but the overall software support is technically better since it now comes with Adaptive Performance Engine 3.0 + Snapdragon Game Super Resolution, which was previously available to Snapdragon Elite chipsets.
Devices running the chip may also output ultra-wide resolutions of up to 1300 x 2900 at 1400Hz, support the latest Spectra ISP for 200MP camera sensors, and record videos at 4K30FPS, enabling Hybrid Log Gamma, HDR10, and HDR10+ formats.
Notable things also include an updated NPU to support Llama-1B and Qwen-1B as well as real-time translation, UFS 3.1 storage, Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+, and more.
As of now, no brands have co-announced which upcoming smartphone will carry the chip.
