The Malaysian Retail Chain Association (MRCA), through Yayasan MRCA, has launched the MRCA Academy Scholarship 2025, offering 100 fully-funded scholarships to enhance skills in Malaysia’s retail workforce.
The scholarships, open exclusively to full-time employees of MRCA member companies, will provide industry-recognised qualifications in collaboration with Sunway University, the London Examinations Board, Perbadanan Nasional Berhad (PERNAS) and INTI International University & Colleges. Recipients can pursue specialised programmes designed for the retail and food and beverage sectors, including Micro-Credential in Retail Marketing, Micro-Credential in F&B Management, Executive Diploma in Retail Management and Executive Diploma in Franchise Operations.
“These initiatives reflect MRCA’s deep commitment to nurturing talent in the retail and franchise sectors,” said MRCA president Datuk Dr Ken Phua during the association’s bi-monthly members’ meeting.
The scholarship programme is funded by proceeds from MRCA’s 2025 Chinese New Year Gala Dinner, which successfully raised RM348,076 through an auction. Separately, Yayasan MRCA awarded RM10,000 each to two deserving students: Lee Chun Ket (Brayan), who is pursuing a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, and Meekesh Rueban A/L Nagayah, currently studying for a Diploma in Interior Design.
In addition to education initiatives, MRCA also contributed RM2,500 each to four charitable organisations—Pertubuhan Kebajikan Rumah Warga Emas Gemilang, Rumah Kasih, Rumah Bakti Dato’ Harun and Hospis Malaysia. The funds were raised during the MRCA Charity Golf 2025 event held at Bangi Golf Resort, underscoring the association’s continued commitment to community welfare.
The event was attended by key industry and government representatives, including Tourism Malaysia senior director and Visit Malaysia 2026 secretariat head Mohd Amirul Rizal Abdul Rahim.
