More love for the less fortunate – Grab rolls out GrabAssist to make rides more accessible

Grab Malaysia just launched a new service called GrabAssist, making travelling a lot easier for people who need extra mobility and accessibility support.

It’s meant for Persons with Disabilities, senior citizens, and anyone who relies on mobility aids, giving them a way to move around more independently without having to struggle with transportation.

The announcement took place at the ASEAN Disability Forum Conference 2025, where Minister of Women, Family and Community Development YB Dato’ Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri officiated the launch, with representatives from several disability organisations also in attendance.

Grab is kicking things off in the Klang Valley, working closely with groups like the Malaysia Federation of the Deaf (MFD) and Persatuan Pemandu e-Hailing OKU Fizikal Malaysia to make sure the service genuinely meets community needs.

To prepare for this, Grab trained nearly 100 driver partners to undergo training from certified care service providers so they know how to properly handle equipment like wheelchairs and walkers, and how to communicate better with passengers who may have different needs. They even carry GrabAssist kits, which include communication flip cards to help ensure a smoother experience.

Passengers who want to use GrabAssist can find it under Advance Booking in the Grab app, letting them schedule a suitable vehicle and trained driver ahead of time.

Grab says this is only the beginning, as they’re planning to expand GrabAssist to more cities and increase the number of trained drivers, building on their broader efforts to support inclusive economic opportunities.

To celebrate the launch, Grab is offering RM14 off every GrabAssist ride from December 3 to 17, and you just need to pick the GrabAssist option under Advance Booking and apply the promo under the “Offers” section. The service is currently limited to the Klang Valley but will eventually be rolled out to more areas.
