MACC Arrests Ex-Army General And His Two Wives

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a high-ranking military general and his two wives as part of an expanding investigation into alleged bribery involving army procurement tenders, marking one of the most serious scandals to hit the Defence Ministry in recent years.

The trio had initially complied with MACC’s request to provide statements at the commission’s offices at around 7.00pm on the day of questioning. However, they were subsequently arrested after investigators recorded their statements, as the probe intensified.

Last week, army chief General Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan was placed on immediate leave to allow the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s investigations into allegations involving bribery of military equipment.

The case is understood to centre on alleged irregularities and kickbacks linked to army tender awards, with MACC widening its dragnet beyond the immediate suspects. Investigators arrested 17 private company CEOs, as well as several other senior military officers.
