Exabytes Elevates Malaysia Website Awards into Landmark Digital Conference and Ceremony 2025
As Malaysia accelerates its digital transformation through initiatives such as Jalinan Digital Negara (JENDELA) and the Digital Economy Blueprint (MyDIGITAL) 2025, businesses face mounting pressure to sharpen their online presence and digital strategies.
In recognition of this shifting landscape, Exabytes has reimagined the Malaysia Website Awards (MWA) by launching the inaugural Malaysia Website Awards Conference & Ceremony 2025 on 25 April 2025.
Far surpassing a traditional awards presentation, this pioneering event gathered the nation’s leading digital talents, businesses, and industry experts on a unique platform aimed at imparting the latest insights in web design, UX/UI, digital storytelling, and sustainable online practices.
Since its establishment in 2015, the MWA has celebrated excellence in web design, user experience, and digital innovation, with over 5,500 website submissions and more than 300 winners honoured to date.
However, the 2025 edition marked a new chapter with the addition of a dynamic conference element. Attendees benefitted from expert discussions on UX/UI innovation, data storytelling, and the role of design in driving business growth — a transformative step for Malaysian web designers and enterprises striving to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving digital economy.
A major highlight of this year’s event was the Digital Design Thinking Conference, a dedicated forum where industry leaders, policymakers, and digital innovators examined emerging trends such as AI-powered design and sustainable digital development.
Attendees were treated to a keynote address by Sharon Ong, Vice President of Design and Communications at Pixlr Group, who explored how AI is reshaping design workflows and accelerating business outcomes.
This was followed by a stimulating panel discussion featuring Derek Tan, Managing Director, South East Asia of admiral digital; Aaron Foo, Head of Product at Koppiku; and Chee Seng Leong, Software Designer at Alphaus Cloud, who shared their perspectives on fostering collaboration within the digital ecosystem.
Complementing these sessions was a practical workshop entitled Storify Your Marketing – Master Data Storytelling to Captivate, Connect, and Convert in the Age of AI, led by Maverick Foo, an award-winning marketing strategist and two-time TEDx keynote speaker.
This hands-on session offered businesses actionable strategies for forging emotional connections with audiences to drive genuine engagement and conversion. Further enriching the programme, Alvin Chai, User Experience Consultant at Netizen eXperience, delivered an insightful sharing session on how AI can enhance human-centred design, highlighting the opportunities for innovation through technology collaboration.
The conference culminated with the much-anticipated MWA 2025 Awards Ceremony, where Malaysia’s finest websites across Personal, Commercial, and E-commerce categories were recognised for their creativity, functionality, and impact.
This year’s Site of the Year honours were awarded to: Mohammed Asif for his personal website aeroer.live; Interadsion Studio for their commercial site interadsion.com; and Web Ninja Studio for their e-commerce platform youmee.com.my.
These prestigious accolades celebrated websites that set new benchmarks in Malaysia’s digital landscape, with winners receiving Exabytes credits, certificates, and trophies in acknowledgement of their achievements.
According to Chan Kee Siak, Founder and CEO of Exabytes, the evolution of the MWA represents far more than an awards revamp — it embodies a commitment to empowering Malaysian businesses with the knowledge, tools, and networks needed to thrive in the digital economy.
“The Malaysia Website Awards has always served as a platform to celebrate digital excellence, but with the introduction of the conference element, we are going one step further,” Chan said. “We are now providing a unique opportunity for businesses to learn from leading experts, exchange ideas, and position themselves at the forefront of digital transformation.”
Beyond simply recognising outstanding digital work, the MWA Conference & Ceremony 2025 served as a catalyst for enhancing Malaysia’s global digital competitiveness. By emphasising best practices in design, accessibility, and user experience, the event ensured that businesses, freelancers, and agencies are better equipped to meet international standards.
Held in Kuala Lumpur, the conference attracted over 100 participants, including business leaders, entrepreneurs, digital professionals, and designers, making it a must-attend event for those keen to future-proof their online strategies.
