Estée Lauder’s Big Deal Watch Continues

Estée Lauder Companies has confirmed that talks with Spain’s Puig are still ongoing, but there is no deal on the table yet. The update comes after months of speculation that the two groups could be heading towards a major combination in the global premium beauty space.

Speaking at the FT Business of Luxury Summit in Apulia, chief executive Stéphane de La Faverie said the companies remain in discussion, but made it clear there is nothing to announce for now. His comments suggest negotiations are still in progress, without any confirmed timeline or outcome.

The potential tie-up, first reported earlier this year, would be significant for the sector. It would bring together a wide portfolio of well-known names, including Tom Ford, Carolina Herrera, Rabanne, Jean Paul Gaultier and Clinique under one group. That kind of consolidation would further concentrate influence in the luxury fragrance and beauty market.

De La Faverie also pointed to Estée Lauder’s broader strategy, saying acquisitions have long been part of its approach. He emphasised that organic growth remains the priority, as it reflects the strength of its brands. However, he stated acquisitions can still play a role in entering new regions, expanding categories and diversifying the business.

For now, the message from both companies is steady rather than dramatic: talks are continuing, but any deal is still firmly up in the air.
