Canva Relaunches Affinity as a Single, Free All-in-One App
Canva Takes Direct Aim at Adobe With Free Affinity Suite
Canva has relaunched its recently acquired Affinity suite, consolidating the separate Photo, Designer, and Publisher applications into a single, all-in-one programme that is now available for free.

The announcement marks a significant escalation in Canva’s effort to challenge Adobe’s dominance over the creative software industry. The move follows Canva’s acquisition of Affinity’s parent company, Serif, in March 2024.
The new, unified app, branded “Affinity by Canva,” merges the full capabilities of the app’s professional-grade photo editing, vector illustration, and page layout tools into one streamlined platform.

This new offering shifts the app from its long-held “one-time purchase” model to a freemium structure. While the core application is free, advanced features, particularly new AI-driven tools, will be locked behind a subscription to Canva Pro.
For existing users who had purchased perpetual licenses for Version 2, reports indicate that their licenses for the older software will continue to function. Still, that version will no longer be actively maintained or updated.
The relaunch is a key part of Canva’s strategy to democratise professional-grade design tools and create a seamless, integrated ecosystem that caters to all users, from casual designers on the main Canva platform to creative professionals who require the precision of the Affinity suite.
