Apple Reportedly Planning OLED Displays for Future MacBook Air, iPad Air and iPad Mini
Apple Rumoured to Include OLED Upgrades for MacBook Air, iPad Air, and iPad Mini
Apple is planning to bring premium OLED display technology to its most popular consumer-focused laptops and tablets, according to a report from Bloomberg. The move would see the MacBook Air, iPad Air, and iPad mini all receive a significant screen upgrade.

The report suggests Apple is preparing to transition these key products away from their current LCD-based screens. OLED displays, already used in Apple’s iPhone lineup and the high-end iPad Pro, would bring substantial visual improvements. Users could expect perfect black levels, significantly higher contrast, and more vibrant, saturated colours compared to the “Liquid Retina” displays currently used in the Air and mini lines.
This rumoured upgrade would represent a major enhancement for these mid-range devices, bringing a premium, “Pro”-level feature to a wider audience. The inclusion of the MacBook Air is particularly notable, as it would mark the first time an Apple laptop outside the Pro series has featured an OLED screen, a move that could redefine the premium laptop market.
In addition to the display upgrades, the report also hinted at a new durability feature for the iPad mini. The article’s details suggest Apple is developing a form of “mini water resistance” for its smallest tablet. While the exact IP rating or level of protection was not specified, adding significant water resistance would be a first for the iPad mini, enhancing its portability and resilience for on-the-go use.
Apple has not officially commented on the report. If the timeline proves accurate, these new models could be part of Apple’s product refresh cycle within the next year or two, pending final development and supply chain readiness.
