ABB Malaysia Strengthens Local Partnerships to Drive Energy Transition
Global technology leader ABB Malaysia Sdn Bhd is actively seeking collaborations with local companies and agencies to accelerate Malaysia’s energy transition goals. By leveraging advanced technologies and strategic partnerships, ABB aims to support the nation’s push towards a more sustainable and energy-efficient future.
ABB’s Vice President of Energy Industries for Southeast Asia, Abhinav Harikumar, highlighted the company’s ongoing efforts to work with key stakeholders in Malaysia. He noted that ABB has partnered with organizations such as the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC) to enhance energy efficiency initiatives.
Additionally, ABB has been working closely with local universities, including Universiti Malaya and Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), to develop expertise in carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies.
“With the technological advancements available today, ABB firmly believes that solutions like CCS and hydrogen require extensive collaboration to drive implementation, secure investments, and scale projects effectively,” Abhinav said at a briefing recently.
“We remain deeply committed to the energy transition mission and are continuously exploring partnerships with other technology providers to further this agenda.”
Harikumar also praised Malaysia’s commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions, as outlined in the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR). He emphasized that as emerging technologies become more widely adopted, they present a significant opportunity to reduce carbon emissions while enhancing the operational efficiency of existing energy infrastructure.
“We see a tremendous opportunity in integrating greener energy solutions into current operations to lower emissions. One of the immediate areas for impact is improving the reliability and efficiency of existing facilities,” he explained.
“Beyond short-term gains, we must remain open to adopting innovative technologies in the medium and long term to ensure sustained progress in the energy transition.”
With a legacy spanning more than 140 years, ABB is a global powerhouse in electrification and automation technologies. Headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, the company continues to be at the forefront of developing cutting-edge solutions that drive sustainability and efficiency across various industries.
As Malaysia intensifies its focus on renewable energy, electrification, and decarbonization, ABB Malaysia is poised to play a critical role in shaping the country’s future energy landscape.
ABB seeks to promote innovation and support Malaysia’s shift toward a greener and more sustainable energy ecosystem by developing strategic partnerships with local businesses, government agencies, and educational institutions.
