IJN First in Asia to Receive EAPC Accreditation for Sports Cardiology
Institut Jantung Negara (IJN) has become the first centre in Asia to receive accreditation from the European Association of Preventive Cardiology (EAPC) for Sports Cardiology, marking a significant milestone in Malaysia’s cardiovascular healthcare landscape.
The accreditation, awarded under the EAPC Preventive Cardiology Centre Accreditation programme, recognises IJN’s adherence to stringent international standards in preventive cardiovascular care. This includes compliance with the latest clinical guidelines, robust infrastructure, and the presence of a highly trained multidisciplinary medical team.
IJN said the recognition underscores its commitment to delivering high-quality, evidence-based cardiac care, particularly in the specialised field of sports cardiology, which focuses on the cardiovascular health of athletes and physically active individuals.

Chief Executive Officer Prof. Dato’ Sri Dr. Mohamed Ezani Md Taib said the accreditation reflects the institution’s continuous efforts to enhance patient outcomes while aligning its services with global best practices. He noted that the milestone reinforces IJN’s position as a leading cardiac centre in the region.
Meanwhile, IJN’s Sports Cardiology Director Dato’ Sri Dr. Azmee Mohd Ghazi said the recognition highlights the importance of specialised cardiovascular care in ensuring safe sports participation through proper risk assessment, monitoring and management.
“This recognition reflects the strength of our Sports Cardiology programme in delivering comprehensive and evidence-based care for athletes and physically active individuals. It reinforces our role in ensuring safe sports participation through proper cardiovascular assessment, risk management and continuous monitoring aligned with international best practices,” Azmee added.

With this achievement, IJN joins a global network of accredited centres under the EAPC, aimed at advancing preventive cardiology practices, fostering international collaboration and improving cardiovascular health outcomes worldwide.
