Focus Protecting Rakyat, Secure Strategic Supplies Amid Energy Crisis

The National Economic Action Council (MTEN) continues to prioritise measures to protect the rakyat and safeguard Malaysia’s strategic supply chains as the global energy crisis intensifies, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.

In a Facebook post, Anwar said the council’s latest meeting focused on mitigating the impact of rising energy costs while ensuring the continued availability of essential goods and services critical to the nation’s stability.

He said efforts to combat leakages and smuggling are being strengthened through tighter supply chain monitoring and the integrated implementation of Ops Tiris 4.0, involving multiple enforcement agencies.

The government is also placing strong emphasis on ensuring the security of medicines and medical devices, with measures including centralised stock monitoring, diversification of import sources and the activation of emergency response plans to ensure adequate supply of critical items.

Looking ahead, Anwar said longer-term strategies will focus on strengthening national buffer stock capabilities, developing domestic industries and formulating a comprehensive policy framework under the MyMedSecure initiative to enhance resilience in the healthcare supply chain.

MTEN also reviewed preparations for haj operations involving 31,600 Malaysian pilgrims, with priority placed on ensuring their safety and welfare amid the evolving global situation.

Anwar stressed that the government will continue to act in a structured and responsible manner to manage the crisis effectively, ensuring the rakyat remain protected while maintaining the country’s economic resilience.
