Anwar Urges Geely To Deepen Role In Malaysia’s Automotive Hi-Tech Valley
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co Ltd (Geely) to scale up its investment in Malaysia’s Automotive Hi-Tech Valley (AHTV), reinforcing the country’s ambition to become a regional hub for the automotive supply chain.
Speaking at the launch of Proton’s electric vehicle (EV) factory on Sept 4, Anwar said he had encouraged Geely chairman Li Shufu to broaden the group’s footprint beyond manufacturing by establishing a centre of excellence for training and education.
“AHTV must be more than just an assembly base. We want it to become a hub for knowledge, innovation and skills development to drive the next phase of Malaysia’s automotive growth,” he said.
He also underlined the need for close collaboration between the Perak state government and federal ministries to ensure AHTV’s success, stressing that the project represents both economic and diplomatic opportunities for Malaysia.
