🔨 1934 – Foundation & Beginnings

• F. Earl Maxwell and his wife Blanche established Maxwell Hardware in Delhi, Louisiana.
• Originally operated in a 25 ft. x 50 ft. wood-framed, sheet metal building.
• Business was slow during the post-Depression era, but perseverance ensured survival.

🏢 1937 – Expansion & New Products

• Moved to a larger masonry building next to Economy Drug Store.
• Expanded inventory to include furniture, Kelvinator refrigerators, and Philco radios.
• Opened a radio repair shop in-store.

🛠️ 1942 – New Location & War-Era Business

• Purchased and renovated the old Coca-Cola Building on Broadway Street.
• Renamed as Maxwell Hardware & Lumber Company.
• Began selling building materials, including cement, roofing, and gypsum board.
• Hard-to-find war-time items like wagon wheel hubs, horse collars, oil lanterns, and cast iron stoves were part of the inventory.

🏗️ 1947-1950s – Growth in Construction & Ownership Changes

• Expanded into electrical supplies, light fixtures, and furniture.
• Earl Maxwell began selling shares in the company to Phillip Rundell and Frank Earl Maxwell, Jr..
• By 1959, Maxwell Hardware became a 50-50 partnership between Rundell and Maxwell, Jr.
• Entered residential construction and remodeling business.

🎬 1960s – Diversification & Innovation

• Opened Cave Theater, later sold to Rundell.
• In 1962, Maxwell Hardware & Lumber was incorporated.
• Created separate businesses for construction and furniture & appliances.
• 1963: Became a founding member of Paul Bunyan Building Suppliers, later merged into Allied Building Stores.

📦 1970s – Major Expansion & Modernization

• 1970: Moved to a new 20,000 sq. ft. facility on Highway 80.
• Started using mechanized material handling for better efficiency.
• 1979: Frank Maxwell III joined the company, working in various roles.

💻 1980s – Digital Transformation & New Milestones

• One of the first building material dealers to adopt point-of-sale computer systems.
• Helped develop an industry-specific software program for building material dealers.

🏆 1990s-2000s – Leadership Transition & Industry Recognition

• 1993: Frank Maxwell III became store manager.
• 2000: Became the sole owner of Maxwell Hardware & Lumber Company.
• 2005: Frank Maxwell III was inducted into the ULM Football Hall of Fame.
• 2003: The company celebrated 69 years of business, serving both contractors and individual customers across Northeast Louisiana.
