Netflix Begins Testing Vertical Video Experience for Phones
Netflix Tests Vertical Video for Mobile Viewing
Netflix is testing support for vertical video as the streaming platform looks to adapt its mobile experience to changing viewing habits. The new feature, currently being trialled on the Netflix mobile app, is designed to surface short-form vertical clips from its shows and films.
The vertical video feed will allow users to scroll through bite-sized clips in a format similar to popular short-video platforms. These clips are expected to act as discovery tools, helping viewers find new titles by sampling key moments rather than watching full trailers.

The feature reportedly focuses on curated scenes from Netflix originals, including popular series and films, presented in a full-screen vertical layout optimised for smartphones. Tapping on a clip will let users jump directly into the show or movie, lowering the friction between discovery and full viewing.
The streaming platform has not confirmed when the feature will roll out more widely or which regions will get access first. The company also has not indicated whether the vertical feed will become a permanent part of the app.
The test reflects Netflix’s broader effort to refine its mobile-first experience, especially as younger audiences increasingly consume video through short, vertically oriented formats. While the company remains focused on long-form storytelling, the experiment suggests the company is exploring new ways to keep users engaged and discovering content within its ecosystem.
