Exploring Agentic AI with Samsung: The Future of Smart Living
In the latest episode of What The Tech, I sat down with a prominent industry leader to discuss about Agentic AI andthe massive shift happening in the world of technology. I was joined by Mr. Matthew Ng, the Head of Mobile Experience at Samsung Malaysia Electronics, to dive deep into how I transition from merely owning smart devices to actually experiencing “smart living”.
As we move through 2026, the conversation is no longer just about what our phones can do, but how our entire ecosystem anticipates our needs.

From Reactive to Proactive: What is Agentic AI?
For a long time, “smart” technology was reactive. If I wanted to dim the lights or turn off the air conditioner, I still had to provide the command. I was the agent of action; the device was just the tool.
Matthew explains that we are now entering the era of Agentic AI. Unlike traditional AI models – such as Google Gemini or ChatGPT – Agentic AI is designed to be proactive. It doesn’t just wait for me to ask a question; it understands habits, daily patterns, and routines to offer solutions before I even realize I need them.
“Agentic AI is what brings smart living to life,” Matthew notes. “It is the next evolution of AI where it learns your routine and gives you prompts or recommendations.”
Living the “Now Brief” Life
A prime example of this technology in action is Samsung’s Now Brief. Imagine having back-to-back appointments and a device automatically pulls a calendar, matches it with live traffic data, and tells me exactly when to leave to remain on time.
It goes beyond simple notifications by integrating:
- Personalized insights from a calendar.
- Real-time weather updates.
- Energy scores and health data.
- Timely reminders for dinner plans or home maintenance.
This level of integration ensures that technology feels natural and seamless, reducing the “mental effort” required to manage a modern life.
Security in an Intelligent World
With devices becoming more “intelligent” and aware of my habits, security is naturally a top concern. Matthew emphasizes that for Samsung, trust isn’t just a claim – it’s something they prove through Samsung Knox.
Because Agentic AI often operates on-device, data doesn’t necessarily need to travel to the cloud to be processed.
- Local Processing: Data is handled on the device itself, significantly reducing the risk of hacking.
- Defense-Grade Security: Samsung Knox has been a built-in, multi-layered platform for over a decade.
- Continuous Authentication: Connected devices within the ecosystem monitor one another to ensure the entire network remains secure.
The 5-Year Vision: A Unified Ecosystem
What does the world look like 5 years from now? According to Matthew, AI will remain central to Samsung’s strategy, supporting me in the background.
The future of Samsung’s ecosystem is one where technology subtly changes life in meaningful ways, allowing me to focus on human connections rather than managing my hardware.
Whether I am at home, at work, or on the go, the transition toward a unified, personal experience is already underway. I am living in a time where smart devices must work for me, not the other way around.
